In Brugel's case it was the guidance by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her in the direction she needed. The teacher suggested she try getting a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and eventually got the role of the main character for the role in Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below).
